Best Beaches in Phuket 2025

Discover the most beautiful beaches and coastal experiences in Phuket.

Phuket is Thailand's largest island and most visited province, set in the warm Andaman Sea off the west coast of the Thai-Malay Peninsula. Renowned for its powdery white-sand beaches, crystalline turquoise waters, vibrant nightlife, and rich Sino-Portuguese cultural heritage, Phuket draws millions of visitors each year. From the buzzing strip of Patong Beach to the serene shores of Nai Harn, the colonial shophouses of Phuket Old Town to the towering white marble Big Buddha statue, the island offers something for every traveller.

Top 10 Beaches

The best beaches Phuket has to offer.

1

Patong Beach

Phuket's most famous and busiest beach, stretching 3 km along the west coast in Kathu District. Wide, white sand backed by a dense strip of hotels, restaurants, and the famous Bangla Road nightlife district. The beach has full facilities — sunbed rental, water sports, restaurants — and a lively, international atmosphere. Best suited to those who want activity and convenience alongside their beach time.

2

Kata Beach (Kata Yai)

A beautiful 1.5 km crescent beach in south Phuket backed by a line of casuarina trees, restaurants, and resorts. The atmosphere is more relaxed than Patong but has good facilities and a thriving social scene. The south end has coral reefs for snorkelling and the beach is popular with beginner surfers from May–October.

3

Kata Noi Beach

A small (600m), sheltered cove just south of Kata Yai, flanked by rocky headlands. Much quieter than its bigger neighbour, Kata Noi has fine white sand, a luxury resort (Katathani) at one end, and excellent snorkelling on the southern rocks. A favourite for couples seeking a romantic, less-crowded beach.

4

Karon Beach

A long (3 km), wide beach just north of Kata with distinctive squeaky white sand (the sand makes a squeaking sound underfoot due to fine quartz particles) and a freshwater lake (Karon Lake) just behind the northern end. Quieter than Patong, with good hotel infrastructure. Popular with families and European package tourists.

5

Surin Beach

An upscale beach on the north-west coast flanked by large granite boulders and casuarina trees. Clear, calm water in dry season. The surrounding area has luxury hotels, the Catch Beach Club, and Amanpuri resort. Sophisticated and beautiful, with a more refined clientele than Patong or Kata.

6

Bang Tao Beach

A long (8 km), largely undeveloped beach on the north-west coast. The central section fronts the Laguna Phuket resort complex (Banyan Tree, Anantara, Cassia, etc.) but the northern end is wild and natural. One of Phuket's most striking beaches in terms of scale and the feeling of space.

7

Kamala Beach

A wide, calm beach in Kamala village, one of Phuket's Muslim fishing communities. Much quieter than Patong, Kamala has clear water, a local fishing village atmosphere, and good budget-to-mid-range restaurants. The Carnival Magic (Phuket Fantasea) theme park is located nearby.

8

Nai Harn Beach

Widely considered one of Phuket's most beautiful beaches, Nai Harn sits in a sheltered bay in the island's far south, backed by a freshwater lake and mature casuarina trees. A favourite with long-term expats and independent travellers who prefer a quieter, more natural setting. The Royal Phuket Yacht Club overlooks the bay.

9

Rawai Beach

Not a swimming beach — Rawai is a working fishing village with longtail boats and pirogues lining the shore. The seafront is a fish market where you pick live seafood and have it cooked next door. A fascinating local experience and a great place for boat charters to nearby islands.

10

Freedom Beach

One of Phuket's most secluded and pristine beaches, accessible only by longtail boat from Patong Pier (10 minutes) or a steep 30-minute hike through the jungle. The small beach has crystal-clear turquoise water, excellent snorkelling at the rocky ends, and a single beach bar. Genuinely feels like a hidden gem.
