Phuket is Thailand's largest island and most visited province, set in the warm Andaman Sea off the west coast of the Thai-Malay Peninsula. Renowned for its powdery white-sand beaches, crystalline turquoise waters, vibrant nightlife, and rich Sino-Portuguese cultural heritage, Phuket draws millions of visitors each year. From the buzzing strip of Patong Beach to the serene shores of Nai Harn, the colonial shophouses of Phuket Old Town to the towering white marble Big Buddha statue, the island offers something for every traveller.

Scuba Diving
Phuket is one of the world's top scuba diving destinations. The surrounding Andaman Sea contains diverse dive sites — from the pinnacles and walls of the Similan Islands (rated among the world's best dive sites) to the colourful reefs of Ko Racha Yai & Noi, the wreck of the King Cruiser ferry (sank 1997), and the drift dives at Shark Point and Anemone Reef. Marine life includes whale sharks, manta rays, leopard sharks, hawksbill turtles, and extraordinary reef diversity.
Best season: November–April (dry season, best visibility)

Surfing
Phuket's west coast picks up south-west monsoon swells from May to October, creating surfable waves at several beaches. Kata Beach is the island's best and most popular surf spot — a consistent beach break with waves 1–2m (3–6 ft) on good days, ideal for beginners and intermediates. Kalim Beach (just north of Patong) has a reef break for more experienced surfers.
Best season: May to October (monsoon swell)

Kiteboarding and Kitesurfing
The long, flat beaches of Nai Yang and Bang Tao on Phuket's north-west coast receive consistent winds and are ideal for kiteboarding. Nai Yang Beach (within Sirinat National Park) is the main hub for the kiteboarding community in Phuket. Lessons for absolute beginners through to advanced rider coaching are available. The season runs approximately May–November when south-west monsoon winds blow consistently.
Best season: May to November (south-west monsoon)

Zip-Lining Through Jungle Canopy
Flying Hanuman, situated in a forested valley in Kathu District, is Phuket's premier zip-line operation. The course features 33 platforms connected by 28 ziplines, sky bridges, and abseil drops, at heights up to 50 metres above the jungle floor. Some ziplines stretch 400 metres. The entire course takes 2–3 hours through intact tropical forest.
Best season: Year-round (course runs in rain)

White Water Rafting (Phang Nga River)
White water rafting takes place on rivers in neighbouring Phang Nga Province, accessed on a day trip from Phuket (approximately 1 hour by road). The Sok River and Phang Nga River have Grade 2–3 rapids surrounded by jungle-clad limestone karst scenery. Suitable for most adults and adventurous teens. Tours include safety briefing, equipment, and guide.
Best season: May to November (higher water levels in monsoon; more exciting rapids)

Sea Kayaking — Phang Nga Bay and Sea Caves
Sea kayaking through the hongs (hidden lagoons) and sea caves of Phang Nga Bay is one of the most exhilarating and beautiful adventures in southern Thailand. Kayaks are paddled into sea cave passages — sometimes barely above water level — to emerge in enclosed jungle lagoons surrounded by 100m limestone cliffs. The experience is both physically engaging and visually spectacular.
Best season: November to April (calmest seas)
