A terrace in front of the ETH main building with a wide panorama over the old town, the Limmat and the Alps beyond.
The Polyterrasse is a terrace beside the ETH Zürich main building, reached by the short Polybahn funicular from Central or by steps. It looks west and south over the old town, the Limmat and the lake, with the twin towers of the Grossmünster, the spire of St. Peter and, on clear days, the Alps. It is a favourite viewpoint among students and visitors, free to enter and open at all hours. Sunset light warms the old-town facades, and the blue hour after sunset gives a lit skyline. A tripod is generally fine on the terrace, and a wide lens covers the panorama while a telephoto isolates the towers.
