Best Hotels in Interlaken 2026

Interlaken's accommodation, honestly tiered — what each budget level really buys, and where to base yourself.

This guide covers 69+ hotels and places to stay in Interlaken — Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa, Hotel Royal St Georges Interlaken MGallery and Grand Beau-Rivage Interlaken top the list. Every recommendation carries its practical details: typical costs, the best time to visit, and what to know before you commit.

Interlaken is a German-speaking resort town in the Bernese Oberland, set on the narrow strip of land between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. It is Switzerland's adventure capital and the main gateway to the Jungfrau region, with views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, lake cruises, paragliding and trains to Jungfraujoch, Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen. Prices are high, but the town is compact, walkable and very well connected by rail.

Accommodation overview

Interlaken sits on the Aare between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, and its hotels cluster in a few compact areas. The Höheweg promenade and the streets around Interlaken West station hold the grand hotels and most three- and four-star rooms, with the Höhematte meadow and the Jungfrau in view. Unterseen, across the Aare, offers older small hotels on Hauptstrasse and Seestrasse, while Matten is the backpacker quarter with several hostels. Interlaken Ost station, for trains to Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and the Jungfraujoch, has a youth hostel and river-side lodges. Wilderswil, Bönigen, Ringgenberg, Iseltwald and Beatenberg give quieter village or lakeside stays within a short train, bus or boat ride. Prices rise steeply in July and August and at Christmas and New Year.

Booking tips

Get the best deals and avoid common mistakes.

Tip

Book 3-4 months ahead for July, August and the Christmas to New Year period; the best-located hotels and hostel private rooms sell out first.

Tip

Interlaken West and Interlaken Ost are both SBB stations; stay near Ost for the earliest Jungfrau-region and Lake Brienz departures, and near West for Thun and Bern trains and the Lake Thun boats.

Tip

Cheapest sleeps: Balmer's Hostel (Hauptstrasse 23, Matten, +41 33 822 19 61), Backpackers Villa Sonnenhof (Alpenstrasse 16, +41 33 826 71 71) and Interlaken Youth Hostel (Bönigstrasse 3a, +41 33 826 10 90) from about CHF 40 (~$49) for a dorm bed.

Tip

Hotels in Wilderswil, Bönigen and Ringgenberg are often cheaper than the Höheweg for the same dates and are a short train, bus or boat ride from Interlaken.

Tip

A seat reservation is required on Jungfraujoch trains in the summer season; the Jungfraujoch return from Interlaken Ost costs roughly CHF 224-261 (~$276-321) depending on season (jungfrau.ch).

Tip

A small tourist tax per person per night is normally added at check-out in addition to the room rate, so confirm whether the quoted price includes it.

Tip

Many small hotels staff reception only part of the day: phone ahead with the arrival time, especially for late train arrivals.
