Interlaken is a German-speaking resort town in the Bernese Oberland, set on the narrow strip of land between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. It is Switzerland's adventure capital and the main gateway to the Jungfrau region, with views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, lake cruises, paragliding and trains to Jungfraujoch, Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen. Prices are high, but the town is compact, walkable and very well connected by rail.

Foodie tips
Get more out of every meal.
Book farm, float and workshop experiences at least a few days ahead; groups are small (the farm tour is capped at 8 guests).
Winter fondue tours run only in the cold season; the farm tour runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from end of May.
Fondue Villa is closed for relocation until spring 2027; use Taverne, Des Alpes or OX for fondue in the meantime.
A Swiss Travel Pass or Halbtax discounts the Harderbahn funicular; the Berner Oberland Pass gives half price.
Most Interlaken chocolate shops and cafés close earlier on Sundays; confirm hours before planning chocolate stops.
Carry some cash: farm cheese is sold at about CHF 20 per kilo (~$25), paid in cash on the farm tour.
