Cinnamon Lodge Habarana sits on the edge of a small jungle on the outskirts of Habarana village in the North Central Province, positioned at the midpoint of Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle. Sigiriya Rock Fortress lies 17 kilometres to the north, the Dambulla Cave Temples are 20 kilometres to the southwest, and Polonnaruwa ancient city is approximately 50 kilometres to the east. The resort functions as one of the primary bases for multi-site Cultural Triangle itineraries, and its wildlife-rich grounds—where elephants pass through seasonally—extend the experience beyond heritage sites to include encounters with wild fauna.

The resort contains 138 chalets arranged across 14 hectares of landscaped grounds. Chalets are single- or double-storey structures with terracotta rooftiles and timber detailing, connected by raised walkways designed to protect the root systems of surrounding trees. Standard Chalet rooms are spacious and cooled by ceiling fans with optional air conditioning; Superior Chalets add a private garden terrace. The design prioritises natural ventilation and low artificial lighting levels to support nocturnal wildlife movement across the grounds.

Dining is concentrated at The Restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets with a strong selection of Sri Lankan cuisine alongside international alternatives. A live cooking station at lunch draws from day's market produce. The Pool Bar operates beside the 50-metre lagoon-style swimming pool, surrounded by palm canopy and one of the most used facilities during the midday heat.

A dedicated safari desk handles jeep bookings into Minneriya and Kaudulla National Parks, where the annual elephant gathering—a congregation of hundreds of Asian elephants at the drying Minneriya Tank—takes place between July and October. An abbreviated spa menu covers Ayurvedic massages and body treatments. Bicycle rentals allow guests to reach Habarana village and its ancient irrigation tank without needing a vehicle.

  • The evening safari slot (typically 3–6 pm) yields better elephant sightings as herds move toward the tank at dusk
  • Request a chalet in the quieter western zone of the property for less foot traffic near the pool
  • Habarana's midday heat is intense November–April; visit heritage sites in the early morning and return to the pool by 11 am
  • The evening dinner buffet at The Restaurant runs until a fixed time; confirm the close before the sunset wildlife drive
