Gran Hotel Sardinero

The Gran Hotel Sardinero occupies a prominent corner position on Plaza de Italia, the formal square at the centre of El Sardinero, Santander's historic beach resort district. Primera Playa de El Sardinero — a wide, gently shelving Atlantic beach — is approximately 80 metres from the hotel's entrance, making it one of the closest full-service hotels to the water in the city. The Gran Casino del Sardinero is an immediate neighbour on the same square. Santander's commercial centre and ferry terminal are around 3 km west, connected by a regular city bus that stops outside.

The building dates to the early 20th century and retains its Belle Époque facade, ornate lobby ironwork and period proportions. Rooms are divided into Standard, Deluxe and Suite categories. Deluxe sea-facing rooms on the upper floors have private balconies with unobstructed views across the beach and bay; Standard rooms at the rear face quieter residential streets. All rooms include air conditioning, flat-screen televisions and complimentary Wi-Fi. The hotel does not have a spa or pool, but the beach is the practical substitute in summer.

The restaurant opens for breakfast and dinner with a menu anchored on Cantabrian seafood and grilled meats; the terrace operates in summer for lunch and early-evening drinks. The hotel is popular with Spanish and French families in July and August and with couples and independent travellers during the shoulder season. Staff can arrange whale and dolphin watching excursions from Santander harbour, day trips to Altamira and golf at the nearby Real Golf de Pedreña across the bay.
