The Barranco de Guayadeque is a protected natural site and one of the most archaeologically significant valleys on the island, inhabited by the Guanche people long before Spanish conquest, and it remains home to a small community of cave dwellers today. La Cueva is part of this living tradition, operating as a family restaurant inside the cave formations with the rough stone walls and vaulted ceilings of the ravine serving as its dining room. The kitchen produces traditional Canarian food with the kind of directness that comes from a place where the cooking has always served the local community first. Rabbit in mojo sauce is a house speciality — the rabbit is sourced locally and the mojo prepared from scratch. Roast goat, slow-cooked until the meat falls from the bone, is another constant. Papas arrugadas come as standard with all main dishes, and the desserts — typically gofio-based preparations such as bienmesabe or gofio mousse — reflect the grain culture that has sustained Canarian highland communities for centuries. The cave dining room is cool even in summer, with the stone naturally regulating temperature. The atmosphere is rustic and convivial, animated by local families at weekends. Prices are among the most reasonable on Gran Canaria: a full meal with house wine rarely exceeds €25. La Cueva is a lunch-only restaurant, open from noon to 17:00 daily.
