Restaurante El Risco is a beloved seafood restaurant in the coastal village of Agaete, on the northwestern tip of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. Agaete sits at the foot of dramatic cliffs where the mountains of Gran Canaria meet the Atlantic, and El Risco sources its catch directly from local fishermen, meaning the menu changes daily according to what was landed that morning. Typical preparations are simple and confident: grilled whole fish, Canarian-style squid, and papas arrugadas served with the house mojo rojo and mojo verde. The fish soup — a rich Canarian caldero made from the day's catch, saffron, and local potatoes — is one of the restaurant's most consistent signatures. The dining room faces the ocean with an uncluttered, cheerful atmosphere; tables outside are popular in the mild Canarian winters. Prices are very reasonable for the quality: mains average €18, and a full meal with wine rarely exceeds €35. Agaete's small harbour at Puerto de Las Nieves is five minutes by foot from the restaurant, and many visitors combine lunch at El Risco with a walk along the waterfront. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. Reservations are recommended on weekends when the tables outside fill with local families and visitors from Las Palmas.
