Restaurante El Risco de Famara is a dramatic cliffside restaurant in Caleta de Famara, a small surf village at the foot of the Famara cliffs on the northwestern coast of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Famara is one of the most visually striking corners of Lanzarote: a vast Atlantic-facing beach of dark sand stretches south beneath a near-vertical cliff wall rising 600 metres, with the Chinijo archipelago — a protected group of small islands including La Graciosa — visible across the water to the north. El Risco de Famara sits above the village on the cliff road, and its terrace positions offer perhaps the most breathtaking sea view of any restaurant in the Canary Islands. The kitchen's offer is focused and appropriate: fresh seafood landed from Lanzarote's Atlantic waters. Lobster — when available — is the prestige item, presented grilled or as the base of a seafood broth. Grilled fish of the day, which changes according to the catch, is the most reliable main course for those without a reservation made specifically for lobster. The seafood broth itself — a rich stock reduction served in small cups before the main course — is a house tradition that sets the tone for what follows. The cliff-top terrace is the main attraction and reservations for terrace seats are considered essential; interior tables, while perfectly pleasant, are a different experience. El Risco closes on Wednesdays. Average spend is €32 per person without lobster.
