Vitoria-Gasteiz Cathedral (Santa María Cathedral)
The Gothic Cathedral of Santa María dominates the medieval hilltop of Vitoria-Gasteiz and is famous for its ongoing restoration project studied by architect and author Ken Follett, who was so inspired he wrote Pillars of the Earth here. Visitors can take guided 'Open Cathedral' tours that take them through scaffolding into hidden corners, revealing layers of history from Roman times to the present. The views from the towers over the medieval quarter are magnificent.
