The Centre Pompidou Málaga is the first branch of the French national modern art museum outside France, installed at Muelle Uno in the Port of Málaga, in Spain's Andalusia region. It opened in 2015 inside El Cubo, a colourful glass cube designed by the Spanish architect Daniel Buren and Javier Pérez de la Fuente, which sits at the foot of the port promenade and is one of the most recognisable modern landmarks of the city. Inside, the galleries present rotating selections from the Pompidou's collection, which includes works by Frida Kahlo, Joan Miró, Francis Bacon, Marc Chagall, René Magritte and Pablo Picasso, along with temporary exhibitions. The permanent display usually changes every few years so that returning visitors see different works. Visitors move between the galleries by escalator and stairs under the roof of the cube, and the glass walls bring in colour from the bright sea light outside. A typical visit takes 1.5 to 2 hours. The most photographed angle is the exterior cube from the quayside, which looks good at any time of day, and the sunset hours add colour to the glass. Crowds are heaviest at midday and on weekends, with cruise passengers adding to numbers in season, while weekday mornings are quieter. Admission is €9 for the combined permanent and temporary exhibitions, €7 for the permanent collection only and €5.50 for reduced combined entry, with free entry on Sundays from 16:00. The museum is closed on Tuesdays, 25 December and 1 January, and last entry is 30 minutes before closing. After the visit, the shops and restaurants of Muelle Uno are close by.
