The Kosmaj Mountain and Monument loop is a forested ridge hike in the Sopot municipality, about 60 km south of Belgrade in central Serbia. The main route is a loop of about 12 km with roughly 600 m of ascent and takes around 4.5 hours, which puts it in the moderate category; a shorter version of about 8 km also exists for those with less time. The trailhead used here is at the Tresije Monastery near Sopot. By car the drive from Belgrade takes about an hour, and parking is possible near the monastery. Without a car, visitors can take a regional bus from the Lasta station in Belgrade to Sopot and continue by taxi to the trailhead; departure times should be confirmed at the station because services are infrequent. No permit is needed. The surface is mostly forest dirt track and footpath with sustained uphill sections, roots and loose stones, and the beech and oak cover provides good shade through summer. The route is not technically exposed, though the summit areas are more open. Landmarks include the Kosmaj lookout, the remains of the medieval Kasteljan monastery, and the brutalist Kosmaj Monument, a large concrete memorial to fighters of the Second World War that dominates the ridge and is visible from far across the plain. A reasonable turn-around point for tired walkers is the monument, from which the shorter route can be chosen. Water is not reliably available on the trail, so about 2 L per person should be carried from the start, together with snacks. There are no staffed refuge huts on the route, and mobile coverage can be patchy on the slopes. Hiking boots and an offline map are advisable, since junctions are not always clearly marked and the loop passes through woodland where it is easy to lose the path.
