Mount Uhud is a reddish granite massif about 1,077 m high and 7.5 km long, on the northern edge of Madinah. The Battle of Uhud was fought on its slopes on 19 March 625 CE between a Makkan force and the Muslims of Madinah. At the foot of the mountain lie the Martyrs' Cemetery, where about seventy Muslims killed in the battle, including Hamza ibn Abd al-Muttalib, are buried, and the nearby Sayyid ash-Shuhada Mosque.

Opposite, a small hill known as Archers' Hill (Jabal ar-Rumat) marks the position held by the archers; a short climb gives a view over the battlefield. The mountain and surrounding open ground are reachable at any hour and need no ticket, but daylight visits are better. The cemetery is enclosed and is seen from the fence; mosques follow prayer times. The area is outside the central sacred precinct and is commonly listed among Madinah sites that non-Muslim visitors can see, though rules can vary, so visitors should respect signs and staff. It is stop one on the Hop-On Hop-Off Red Route.
