Praia Inhame Eco Resort

Praia Inhame Eco Resort sits on São Tomé's southern coast at Praia Inhame, a crescent-shaped beach of volcanic dark sand approximately 55 km south of São Tomé City along the EN1 highway. The road journey from the capital takes around 1.5 hours by car and passes through the island's active cocoa-plantation belt and patches of secondary rainforest. The surrounding coastline is a documented sea turtle nesting site; the resort cooperates with conservation monitoring programmes and, during the nesting season running broadly from June through February, guests can observe both nesting activity and hatchling release under the guidance of local monitors. The property consists of a small cluster of timber-and-thatch bungalows arranged on a low coastal bluff overlooking the beach, each built with natural ventilation as the primary cooling system, mosquito netting on the beds, and basic en-suite bathrooms. The deliberately simple construction reflects the eco-resort philosophy: the property runs on solar and generator power, minimises single-use plastic, and builds its menu almost entirely from locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant and open-sided bar are the social centre of the property, serving freshly grilled fish, grilled octopus, and locally grown vegetables; the kitchen also produces a Santomean breakfast of bread, eggs, tropical fruit, and island-grown coffee. A kayak rental programme gives guests access to the coast's inlets and rocky headlands. Snorkelling equipment is available for hire and the shallow reef sections close to shore support reef fish and occasional sea turtles during appropriate periods. The resort does not have a swimming pool; sea swimming is the primary aquatic activity, and conditions vary seasonally — the southern coast can carry stronger swell than the sheltered northern bays around the capital. Staff are local to the surrounding villages and have detailed knowledge of accessible forest trails and remote beaches reachable on foot from the property.
