Café Aliança

Café Aliança, dating from 1908, is one of the oldest cafés in Faro and one of the most architecturally significant in the region, with a beautifully preserved Art Nouveau interior featuring marble countertops and original wooden fixtures. The menu is simple by design — bica (espresso) and torrada mista (mixed toast) among the standard orders — since the draw here is less about culinary ambition and more about drinking coffee in a genuinely historic setting more than a century old. The dining room retains its early-twentieth-century character almost fully intact, with a formal but welcoming atmosphere and a noise level that shifts from quiet in the morning to a livelier hum of conversation later in the day. There is no table-service menu beyond the café basics; most orders are quick and simple, whether taken at the counter or at one of the historic tables. A basic coffee and pastry list is all that is offered, in keeping with the café's identity as a historic coffee house rather than a full restaurant. No reservation is needed; the café operates as a walk-in establishment throughout its opening hours.
