Vila Galé Tavira is the principal four-star hotel in Tavira, occupying a modern purpose-built block on the Gilão riverbank in the centre of the town. Opened as part of the Portuguese Vila Galé chain, the hotel was designed to integrate with the waterfront rather than compete with Tavira's extensive historic architecture, which lines the opposite bank. The riverside position puts guests immediately adjacent to the Roman bridge and within 300 metres of the old town's main squares, churches and Arab-influenced market. Tavira is consistently rated among the most attractive and least overdeveloped towns in the Algarve, and the hotel's central location makes it the natural base for exploring the eastern Algarve region.
