Hotel Stary Krakow

Hotel Stary stands on Szczepanska Street at the corner of Krakow's Main Market Square (Rynek Glowny), occupying one of the most historically significant addresses in Poland. The building's origins span multiple centuries: surviving fabric includes 15th-century Gothic cellars, a 17th-century Renaissance courtyard loggia, and 19th-century neo-classical street elevations. When the property was converted to a five-star hotel, the restoration programme uncovered and preserved fresco fragments, original stone vaulting, and historic well structures, all of which are integrated into the interior design rather than concealed.

The hotel's 53 rooms and suites are distributed across several interconnected structures and vary considerably in character. Rooms on the lower floors retain thick stone walls and arched apertures that reference the medieval periods; upper-floor rooms in the 19th-century wing tend toward lighter classical proportions. All categories are finished with high-quality fabrics, hand-crafted woodwork, and period-appropriate art; bathrooms feature Italian marble and heated floors. The suite count is high relative to the room total, giving the hotel an unusually intimate ratio of top-tier inventory.

Dining is anchored by the Trzy Rybki restaurant, which sits partly in the historic vaulted cellars and partly in a glazed garden courtyard; the menu draws on seasonal Polish ingredients interpreted through a contemporary European kitchen. The rooftop terrace bar provides views directly over the Market Square towards the Cloth Hall and St Mary's Basilica and operates during warmer months. Breakfast at Stary is a sit-down service rather than a buffet, with dishes prepared to order.

The spa and wellness centre spans two levels below the hotel and includes a swimming pool set in a barrel-vaulted brick chamber, multiple sauna configurations, steam room, and a treatment menu delivered by a dedicated therapist team. The concierge function is strong: staff maintain relationships with restaurant owners and venues citywide, enabling table reservations and event access that would be difficult to arrange independently. The location within the car-free Old Town means all major sights — Wawel Castle, Kazimierz Jewish Quarter, Florian's Gate — are reachable on foot in under 20 minutes.
