Day trip from Lima, Lima
Lunahuaná - Rafting and Pisco Country
A charming Andean river valley town 165km south of Lima, famous for white-water rafting on the turquoise Cañete River and for producing excellent pisco and local wines. Lunahuaná offers a completely different landscape from coastal Lima: the deep Andean valley, green riverside cultivation, and the dramatic Inca ruins of Incahuasi above the town make it a rewarding day trip.
Highlights
- White-water rafting on the Cañete River (Class II-IV depending on season)
- Inca ruins of Incahuasi above town
- Pisco and local wine bodega tastings
- Canoeing and kayaking
- Peruvian valley cuisine (excellent chicharrón)
Tips
- December to March gives the best (and wildest) rafting when Andes snowmelt fills the river
- The local chicharrón (pork cracklings) at riverside restaurants is outstanding
- Multiple rafting operators compete - compare prices and safety equipment before booking
- The valley drive itself is beautiful - if possible arrange an early start for the scenic drive
