The south (Sindh, coastal Balochistan) is hot desert and subtropical with mild winters and intensely hot summers exceeding 45°C. Punjab (Lahore, Islamabad) has a continental climate with cold winters, pleasant spring and autumn, and a hot monsoon summer. The northern mountains (Hunza, Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan) have an alpine climate with freezing winters, snow-blocked passes, and short warm summers when trekking is possible.
