Waheed Kabab House

Waheed Kabab House has served Burns Road in Saddar, Karachi, Sindh, for decades, and remains one of the neighbourhood's best-known stops for fried nihari and grilled kababs. The kitchen operates in full view of the street, with kababs skewered and grilled to order over open flame while the fried nihari simmers nearby, giving the whole block a distinctive smell of spice and charcoal. Signature dishes include the fried nihari, chapli kabab and seekh kabab, all served with naan and eaten at simple tables set close to the open kitchen. The dining room has no pretensions to atmosphere beyond its street-food energy: it is loud, informal and functional, with a constant flow of customers rather than a lingering, quiet meal. There is no reservation system, and seating is entirely walk-in, with the busiest periods around breakfast and lunch when the fried nihari is freshest. Prices are firmly at the budget end of the scale, in keeping with the restaurant's role as a working-class institution rather than a destination restaurant, and it remains a fixture of Burns Road's dense street-food scene.
