Mohenjo-daro Site Museum

The Mohenjo-daro Site Museum, adjacent to the archaeological ruins near Larkana, houses a collection of artifacts excavated from the Indus Valley Civilization city since digging began in the 1920s. The museum's galleries display pottery, terracotta figurines, stone and shell beads, weights and measures, and steatite seals bearing the undeciphered Indus script, alongside a replica of the bronze "Dancing Girl" figurine, whose original is held in the National Museum, New Delhi. Other exhibits include copper and bronze tools, children's toys such as terracotta carts, and reconstructed models illustrating the layout of the ancient city's citadel and lower town. The museum's curatorial approach groups objects thematically by function, covering daily life, trade, craft production, and civic administration in the Bronze Age city, rather than following a strict find-by-trench chronology. Housed in a modest, single-story building constructed in the mid-20th century, the museum has seen periodic renovation of its display cases and lighting, though its infrastructure remains basic compared to larger national museums. Given the site's remote location, the museum sees fewer visitors than its historical importance might suggest, though it remains the primary place to see original small finds from Mohenjo-daro without traveling to Karachi or Delhi.
