Gandaki Province is Nepal's adventure heartland, home to Pokhara—the gateway to the Annapurna Himalayas—and encompassing some of the world's most dramatic landscapes from subtropical valleys to high-altitude deserts. The province stretches from the Terai plains to the peaks of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges, including the mystical kingdom of Mustang.
Best time to visit
Best: October to November
Best Reason: The months after monsoon deliver Nepal's clearest Himalayan views, perfect trekking temperatures (10-25°C on trail), dry trails, and the country's major Hindu festivals (Dashain and Tihar). October is consistently the finest month.
Second Best: March to April
Second Best Reason: Spring brings rhododendron blooms at altitude, warming temperatures, and excellent trekking conditions. April is the best month for Upper Mustang.
Peak Season: October and November
Avoid: June to August
Avoid Reason: The monsoon brings extreme rainfall (600-940mm/month), trail hazards, leeches, landslide risk on mountain roads, and poor mountain visibility. Only Upper Mustang remains viable for trekking.
