La Mamounia

La Mamounia sits on Avenue Bab Jdid at the southern edge of the Medina, a short walk from the Koutoubia Mosque and the ramparts, with Jemaa el-Fnaa reachable on foot in about fifteen minutes. Opened in 1923 in gardens that once belonged to an 18th-century royal estate, the hotel was reimagined by designer Jacques Garcia in a 2009 renovation that layers Art Deco lines over traditional Moroccan marquetry, zellige tilework and carved plaster, and it retains the eight hectares of century-old olive, orange and palm gardens that gave it its name. Accommodations range from Deluxe and Superior rooms in the main building through Junior Suites and Suites to standalone Riad Suites and private Villas, many overlooking the gardens or the Atlas Mountains. Dining spans four restaurants, including Le Marocain for traditional cuisine served in a garden pavilion and L'Italien, alongside four bars and two tea salons. The spa is one of the largest in Marrakech, with a hammam, indoor and outdoor pools, and treatment suites, complemented by a fitness centre and tennis courts. Service is formal and palace-style, with a dedicated concierge desk, butler service for suites and villas, and airport transfers, making it suited to guests seeking a classic luxury experience rather than an intimate riad stay.

  • Reserve spa treatments a day in advance during peak season, as the hammam books up quickly
