Start early — most day trips require leaving Marrakesh by 07:00–08:00 to reach the destination with enough time before the return journey.
Agree on the price and return time with grand taxi drivers before setting off; ask your riad reception for the current standard fares to avoid overpaying.
Carry cash in Moroccan dirhams — rural destinations such as Setti Fatma and Imlil rarely accept cards, and ATMs may not be available.
Pack water, sunscreen, and a light layer even in summer — High Atlas villages can be significantly cooler than Marrakesh, and afternoon shade disappears quickly in desert areas.
The Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass (on the road to Aït Benhaddou and Ouarzazate) can be closed by snow from December to February; check conditions before travelling.
Monday is the best day to visit Setti Fatma for its weekly Berber souq; Ourika Valley also holds a regular Tuesday market worth timing your visit around.
For Ouzoud Waterfalls, combine the trip with a swim in the natural pools at the base and watch for Barbary macaques in the surrounding olive groves — harassment of the macaques is common so keep your distance.
