Amanjena

Amanjena occupies the Agdal district on the Route de Ouarzazate, roughly 7 kilometres from the Medina and set within an old olive grove near the Amelkis golf course. Opened in 2000, it was the Aman group's first resort in Africa, its low-slung pavilions built in an Andalusian-Moorish style around a large central reflecting pool lined with palms. Accommodation consists of freestanding Pavilions, Pavilions with their own private pool, a Two-Bedroom Maison d'Une Nuit, and separate Riads, all finished in ochre pisé walls and domed ceilings. The main restaurant serves Moroccan and Mediterranean dishes on a terrace facing the pool, with in-pavilion dining available around the clock. The spa building is centred on an elaborate hammam with steam rooms and treatment suites, and guests have access to tennis courts and the neighbouring golf course. With only a limited number of pavilions on the grounds, service is understated and personal, geared toward guests seeking seclusion over proximity to the souks, with a shuttle available into the Medina. Interiors combine dark wood furniture, wrought-iron detailing and locally woven textiles, and each pavilion opens onto its own walled courtyard for privacy. The resort's low density, with under a hundred keys spread across extensive grounds, keeps common areas uncrowded even during peak season, and the concierge team can arrange private golf tee times, hot-air balloon excursions over the Palmeraie and transfers into the Medina for shopping or sightseeing.
