Riad L'Orangeraie

Riad L'Orangeraie occupies a converted merchant house behind an unmarked wooden door on Rue Sidi Boulakat in the Mouassine quarter of the Medina, a five-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa and close to the Mouassine Mosque and the Medersa cluster of workshops. The riad was restored in 2013 around a mosaic-tiled plunge pool, and it keeps original zellige tilework, carved plaster cornices, and painted cedar ceilings that mark the building's nineteenth-century origins, giving the seven-room property an intimate, house-like feel rather than a hotel atmosphere. Rooms are split across Standard, Deluxe, and Suite categories, each finished with handmade tadelakt plaster walls, brass lighting fixtures, and en-suite bathrooms; upper rooms open onto shared terrace space rather than private balconies, in keeping with traditional riad layouts. Breakfast is served either in the courtyard beside the plunge pool or on the rooftop terrace, which looks toward the Koutoubia minaret and is also used for evening meals prepared to order by the in-house kitchen. A small hammam and treatment room on the lower floor offers steam sessions and traditional black-soap scrubs, and staff arrange henna, cooking, and hammam bookings directly. The riad is family-run in character: a resident host and small team handle check-in, restaurant reservations, and day-trip planning, and the scale of the property means guests interact with the same staff throughout a stay, making it well suited to couples and small groups seeking a quiet Medina base rather than resort-style amenities.
