Jbel Tazzeka National Park is a forested limestone massif in the Taza Province of northern Morocco, rising above the town of Taza in the Middle Atlas foothills. The landscape combines cedar and cork oak woods, rocky ridges, deep gorges and caves, and it is a quieter alternative to the better-known Middle Atlas parks. The usual way to see it is a scenic loop road of around 120 km starting from Taza, which climbs through woodland, passes viewpoints over valleys and gorges, and reaches features such as the Friouato cave system and the Chiker gorges. Visitors drive or take a private grand taxi and stop for short walks, picnics and photographs. Spring is the best season, when wildflowers cover the slopes and streams run strongly, while autumn offers mild weather and colour. Summer can be hot at lower elevations, and winter may bring snow and closed or difficult roads at height. A circuit normally takes half a day, longer with cave visits or hikes. There is no entrance fee, and the park is open at all times, weather permitting. Crowds are almost nonexistent outside weekends, when local families picnic. Services are limited, so visitors should bring water, food and fuel. A rental car provides the most flexibility, and a private grand taxi from Taza can be negotiated for the day. Mobile coverage can be weak in the gorges, and travelers should check road conditions in winter. Photography is unrestricted, with the best vantage points at the high viewpoints along the loop.
