When to hike

Seasonal conditions in Montenegro.

Spring
Late April to June - wildflowers bloom across meadows, waterfalls are strongest, migrating birds at Lake Skadar, rivers high from snowmelt. Lovćen and coastal trails excellent.
Summer
July-August ideal for high-altitude trails in Durmitor and Prokletije. Coastal trails hot; start very early morning. Black Lake circuit perfect for families.
Fall
September-October is the finest season: cool temperatures, clear skies, spectacular autumn colours in Biogradska and Durmitor. The best months for serious hikers.
Winter
December-March: lower elevation coastal trails remain accessible. Durmitor and mountain trails may require snowshoes or be closed. Ski touring possible in Durmitor.
