Mérida is the capital of the Mexican state of Yucatán, a warm, walkable colonial city founded in 1542 on the Maya site of T'Hó. Its Plaza Grande, Paseo de Montejo mansions, Yucatecan cooking and low costs make it a base for Uxmal, Chichén Itzá, Izamal, Celestún and dozens of cenotes.
Mérida's nightlife is relaxed, walkable and centered on a few blocks of Centro. Evenings start with dinner and cocktails around Parque de Santa Lucía and Calle 47, move to mezcal bars and cantinas on Calles 56-62, and end in the dance rooms of Barrio de Santiago or at karaoke on the Remate of Paseo de Montejo. The city is among the safer large cities in Mexico, and the central bar zone is busy until around 02:00-03:00 from Thursday to Saturday. Weeknights are quiet, and many kitchens and bars close by 22:00-24:00 from Monday to Wednesday.
Mezcal bars, speakeasies, cantinas with live bands, LGBTQ+ drag venues and karaoke on the Paseo de Montejo.

Nightlife tips
Stay safe and have fun.
Use Uber, DiDi or a taxi after dark, not long walks between districts; Centro blocks are well lit but quiet after 01:00.
Take pesos in small notes; cantinas and market stalls rarely take cards, and bars often add a 10-15% tip expectation.
Check the venue's Instagram for the day's promotions (2-for-1 deals are common 13:00-20:00).
Drink bottled water between cocktails; Mérida's heat and humidity speed dehydration.
Reserve a table for Friday and Saturday at La Pulquería - Cantina Latina and La Blanca Tropical.
Hours change often; confirm by phone or Instagram before leaving.
