Fishing at Presa de Atlangatepec

The Presa de Atlangatepec reservoir in Atlangatepec Municipality, Tlaxcala, offers boat and shore fishing along roughly 6km of accessible shoreline, targeting tilapia and other freshwater species stocked in the reservoir. The activity has no fitness barrier and suits anglers of all ages and experience levels, from children fishing off the shore to adults booking a boat with the local cooperative. Rod, reel and tackle are available for rental, and boats are provided with a cooperative member handling navigation; visitors bring a sun hat, sunscreen, a cooler for the catch and non-slip shoes for boat outings. The Atlangatepec fishing cooperative is made up of local families who have fished the reservoir for generations and know its seasonal fish patterns and safe boat routes, though it operates informally rather than under a certified guiding body. Before boat outings, the cooperative reviews basic boat safety with passengers, including life-jacket use and where to sit, and staff monitor weather and avoid taking boats out when winds create rough water on the open reservoir.
