Parque La Choca

Parque La Choca is one of Villahermosa's larger public parks, occupying open ground on the western side of the city away from the denser Zona Luz and Tabasco 2000 districts. Wide lawns, a small artificial lake and shaded rest areas make it a popular weekend destination for local families looking for open space to picnic, exercise or let children run, and paved paths running through the grounds are well suited to walking, jogging or cycling in a quieter setting than the busier riverside malecon downtown. A modest zoo section within the park holds enclosures for regional Tabasco species, giving an easy, lower-cost alternative to Yumka or Parque-Museo La Venta for visitors with limited time who still want to see local wildlife. The park's scale means a visit can range from a quick hour-long walk to a more leisurely two hours if the zoo section and lakeside areas are both explored at a relaxed pace. Weekend mornings bring the most local activity, with families setting up picnics and the zoo section typically at its most fully staffed, while weekday visits tend to be markedly quieter.
