Parque Tomas Garrido Canabal

Parque Tomas Garrido Canabal is one of Villahermosa's established neighborhood parks, a shaded stretch of mature tropical trees and wide paths a short distance from the Laguna de las Ilusiones. It takes its name from Tomas Garrido Canabal, the governor whose sweeping and often divisive reforms in the 1920s and 1930s, including anti-clerical campaigns and major public works, left a lasting mark on the city's layout, and the park stands as one of the more neutral public spaces bearing his name today. A small ornamental lake, benches under the tree canopy and open lawn areas draw local families for weekend picnics, and municipal fitness instructors frequently run free outdoor exercise classes on the paths in the early morning hours, drawing a mix of residents of all ages.
