Cascadas Las Brisas

Cascadas Las Brisas is a waterfall in the Barrio San Andrés area outside Cuetzalan, reached by a hiking trail through cloud-forest vegetation that descends toward the falls along a river gorge. The round-trip hike takes 2 to 3 hours depending on pace and trail conditions, with the path involving some steep, potentially slippery sections as it drops toward the water. At the base, the falls drop into a natural pool where swimming is possible outside of periods of heavy rain, when currents can become strong. The setting is heavily forested, with limited built infrastructure beyond basic trail markers and, near the entrance, a small admission point run by the local community that maintains the path. Morning visits during the rainy season, roughly June through October, bring the fullest and most dramatic flow, though the trail is also more slippery during this period, while the dry season offers easier footing but a thinner water flow. The best vantage point for photos is from the rocks at the base of the falls looking up at the full drop, though visitors should be cautious of slick surfaces near the water's edge. Weekday mornings are the quietest time on the trail, since weekend visits, particularly from domestic tourists based in Cuetzalan, bring noticeably more foot traffic on the narrow path. Sturdy, closed-toe footwear with good grip is essential given the mix of mud, wet rock, and uneven terrain throughout the hike.
