Planetario Alfa

Planetario Alfa is an interactive science museum and planetarium that opened in 1978 in western Monterrey, funded by the Alfa industrial group and expanded several times since with updated exhibits on space, technology, and natural science. The centerpiece is a large dome theater showing immersive astronomy and science films, supplemented by hands-on exhibit halls covering physics, biology, and space exploration aimed primarily at families and school groups. Outside the main building, landscaped gardens and outdoor exhibit areas offer views toward the Sierra Madre foothills to the west, giving visitors a place to walk between indoor sessions. A full visit, including a dome show and a walk through the exhibit halls, typically takes two to three hours. Afternoons are the busiest period, since the museum's hours run from 3PM into the evening on most days, drawing families after school and work hours; arriving near the 3PM opening offers the best chance to see the dome show before it fills for later screenings. The outdoor terrace areas are best visited in the early evening, when temperatures cool and the gardens catch the last light over the surrounding hills. Because show times for the dome theater are limited and can sell out on weekends, checking the schedule and arriving early for a preferred show time is worthwhile.
