Mezcalería La Truja is a small, unpolished mezcal bar on a side street in Morelia's historic centre, Michoacán, cheaper and rowdier than the city's big-name agave bars. The crowd skews young, drawing heavily from students at the nearby university, and dress is entirely casual — there is nothing formal about the setting. Music leans toward Mexican rock and cumbia, played loud enough to shape the room's energy rather than sit in the background, and the atmosphere is closer to a neighbourhood hangout than a tasting room. The drinks programme covers mezcal, Michoacán's charanda cane spirit and Mexican craft beer, all priced lower than nearby competitors, with botanas served alongside orders as a matter of course. Opening hours run evenings only, generally Tuesday through Saturday from around 6PM, and the bar does not open on Sunday or Monday. There is no cover charge and no reservation system; it operates as a walk-in venue with no table service beyond ordering at the bar or from staff circulating the room. Bottle service is not part of the format. The busiest nights fall Thursday through Saturday, when the small room fills with a loud, young crowd, while earlier weeknights offer a calmer, cheaper alternative to the polished mezcalerías nearby.
