Cerro de las Tres Cruces Malinalco Viewpoint Trail

The Cerro de las Tres Cruces trail begins a short uphill walk from Malinalco's main plaza, near Calle Guerrero in the town center, with no vehicle needed and no permit or entrance fee required. The route is brief, covering only 1.4km round trip with about 36m of elevation gain via a stepped, stair-assisted path with handrails, making it accessible to nearly any visitor with basic mobility. The surface is a mix of concrete steps and packed stone, fully exposed to the sun with no shade along the climb, so the short duration is an advantage in the warmer midday hours. There is no technical terrain, scrambling, or significant exposure; the handrails provide security on the steeper sections near the top. The main landmark is the summit itself, marked by three large white crosses that give the trail its name, from which visitors get a panorama over Malinalco's tile rooftops, the surrounding valley, and a clear view across town to the Cerro de los Idolos archaeological site on the opposite hillside. Because of its short length, there is effectively no meaningful turn-around point partway up; most visitors complete the full climb to the crosses. There are no water sources, vendors, or shelter along the route, so a single litre of water is generally sufficient given the short duration, though sun protection is more important than hydration on this particular trail given the complete lack of shade.
