Zona Romántica (Romantic Zone), Puerto Vallarta

The Zona Romántica occupies the blocks south of the Río Cuale in Puerto Vallarta, centered on Olas Altas street and Los Muertos Beach, and has developed into the city's most concentrated district for dining, LGBTQ+ nightlife, and boutique shopping. Visitors spend their days moving between the beach, the pier, and the neighborhood's grid of cobblestone streets, where Basilio Badillo, nicknamed Restaurant Row, hosts a dense stretch of restaurants ranging from taco stands to upscale seafood. In the evenings the area shifts toward its bar and club scene, particularly along Calle Insurgentes and Olas Altas, which draw a lively mixed crowd well past midnight. A full day allows time for the beach in the morning, a walk through the boutiques and galleries in the afternoon, and dinner and nightlife in the evening; the neighborhood's compact size means most of it can be covered on foot. Whale-watching and snorkeling tours to the Marietas Islands also depart from the nearby marina between November and March. Evenings and weekends are busiest, especially around Restaurant Row and the beachfront bars, while daytime hours are calmer and better suited to browsing shops and galleries.
