Puente de Dios Poza Azul

Puente de Dios is a natural rock bridge spanning the Tolantongo canyon, arching over a pool known as the Poza Azul for its striking turquoise color, fed by mineral-rich water flowing through the gorge. The most effective frame places the rock arch overhead with the blue pool and canyon walls below, shot from the water's edge or from a raft floating beneath the span. The turquoise color reads most vividly under direct overhead sun, so midday light, while less flattering for portraits, is what reveals the pool's full color; early morning or late afternoon shots trade color saturation for softer light and fewer reflections off the water surface. The dry season from November through April keeps the water at its clearest, since heavy rains upstream can cloud the pool and reduce the turquoise effect. Reaching the bridge typically involves a short hike or boat transfer from the main Tolantongo complex, and the pool draws a steady stream of swimmers, so photographing before mid-morning avoids people in the water. There is no separate photography fee beyond the general Tolantongo site access, and a waterproof housing is essential for anyone shooting from within the pool itself.
