Isla Ixtapa Coral Cove

Playa Coral on Isla Ixtapa sits over a shallow patch of coral reachable only by a short boat taxi from Playa Linda, with clear, shallow turquoise water in the foreground and the small island's palm-backed shoreline as background for both above- and below-surface compositions. Direct overhead sun around midday brings out the clearest, most saturated turquoise and coral tones in the shallow water, since low-angle sunrise or sunset light creates more surface glare and less color penetration into the water; a polarizing filter at the surface helps cut remaining glare for shots looking down into the shallows. November through May offers the clearest water, while the rainy season can bring runoff that clouds the shallows and reduces underwater visibility. The island's boat-taxi landing and the beach itself draw steady day-trip crowds, especially around midday when tour boats arrive together, so the clearest unobstructed water shots are easiest to find either right after the first boats land or later in the afternoon as crowds thin. There is a boat-taxi fare to reach the island and a small beach-use or restaurant-seating fee at some of the palapas, but no formal restriction on cameras or snorkeling gear; drones require caution given the concentration of boat traffic and swimmers in the cove.
