Tecomán and the Lime Country

Tecoman sits about 50 km south of Colima City, a 45-minute trip by car along the southern highway or by Autobuses de Occidente and other second-class bus services departing from the Central Camionera. Known as Mexico's leading lime-producing municipality, the area surrounding the town is covered in lime orchards that supply a large share of the country's Persian lime exports, and the town hosts an annual Feria del Limon, a lime fair with agricultural exhibits, music, and food stalls typically held around the harvest season. The town center is anchored by the Basilica de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe de Tecoman, a pilgrimage site that draws visitors from across the region, particularly around its December feast days. A day trip usually pairs a morning walk through the town's central market, where lime-based products, aguas frescas, and local produce are sold, with an afternoon drive through the surrounding orchard roads, where some growers welcome visitors to see the groves up close, especially when arranged through an agricultural-tourism tour. Lunch in Tecoman typically means simple market food or a seafood restaurant, since the town sits close enough to the coast to draw fresh catch inland. Because Tecoman lies on the route toward Playa Cuyutlan, many day trips continue west after lunch to combine both destinations into a fuller southern-coast itinerary. The lime harvest is active across most of the year given the region's multiple annual flowering cycles, so there is no single narrow season, though the town and orchards are busiest and most colorful during the main harvest push.
