Edzna Great Acropolis and Nohochna Walk

Edzna is reached by driving about 55 minutes from Campeche city via the Campeche-China-Pich highway, or by colectivo vans from Avenida Republica near the market that pass the site turnoff; INAH opens the site 09:00 to 17:00 with last entry at 16:30. The circuit covers about 3 km of level, mown grass causeways across the site's drained Maya valley, with a single 30 m stair climb onto the Great Acropolis platform as the only significant elevation change. The causeways are partly shaded by scattered trees but the wider plazas are exposed to full sun, and the surface throughout is maintained grass and stone rather than natural forest floor. The route links the Great Acropolis, the Platform of the Knives, and the long terraced Nohochna, with the five-storey Templo de los Cinco Pisos dominating views from nearly every angle and serving as the natural centrepiece and photo stop of the walk. There is no water source along the causeways, though the visitor centre near the entrance has restrooms and shade; the exposed sections make heat management important, particularly from April to June when the site becomes very hot. Edzna's canal system, still visible as shallow channels bordering the causeways, reflects the site's original role as a Maya water-management centre, adding context to what is otherwise the most level and easily walked archaeological circuit in the state.
