Campeche Walled City Paso de Ronda and Malecon Circuit

The walk begins at the Puerta de Tierra at Calle 18 and Calle 59 in the historic centre of San Francisco de Campeche, fully within walking distance of downtown and served by city buses along Avenida Resurgimiento and inexpensive taxis; access to the paso de ronda rampart walk requires a small ticket, and the Saturday evening light-and-sound show at the Puerta de Tierra has a separate fee. The circuit covers 8 km including the full Malecon leg, essentially flat except for a single stair ascent of about 8 m onto the ramparts near the start. The rampart section is stone and colonial masonry, the streets of the historic grid are paved cobblestone and pavement, and the Malecon itself is a wide paved seafront promenade, so the surface is consistently firm and walkable throughout, with shade available on the rampart and street sections but almost none along the open Malecon. Landmarks along the way include the Baluarte de San Juan at the end of the rampart walk, the painted facades of Calle 59 through the historic grid, and the long seaward stretch of the Malecon ending at the Justo Sierra monument, which serves as the natural finishing point of the circuit. Water, food, and shelter are readily available throughout, since the route passes through the city's restaurants, cafes, and public spaces rather than remote terrain, making it the most amenity-rich walk in the state. The sea breeze along the Malecon makes the later stages of the walk noticeably cooler than the historic centre, particularly after sunset.
