Rosarito Beach Hotel

The Rosarito Beach Hotel occupies the seafront at Boulevard Benito Juarez 31 in the Zona Centro of Playas de Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico, about 30 minutes south of the Tijuana border crossings on the coast road. It is the property that created the town: opened in 1925 and expanded through the Prohibition years, it drew Hollywood traffic across the border for decades and effectively turned a stretch of empty coast into a resort destination. That history is still visible in the older wings, where hand-painted tile murals, carved beams, wrought iron and a period lobby survive alongside the modern additions. Accommodation is split between the historic wings, with smaller rooms and more character, and the newer beachfront towers, which offer larger contemporary rooms and suites with balconies over the sand; suite categories include units with kitchens suitable for families or longer stays. The setting is a long stretch of private beach, one of the widest and most usable on this coast, backed by several swimming pools, a spa with treatment rooms and a sauna, a fitness area, tennis courts and a children's play area. Dining runs across several outlets, from the beachfront Azteca restaurant serving Mexican and seafood dishes under painted murals to casual poolside food and a bar that has been part of the town's social life for generations; a breakfast buffet is served daily. Service is that of a large, long-established resort rather than a boutique operation, and the guest mix skews toward Mexican and southern Californian families, weekend groups and wedding parties, which means the property can be lively at weekends and during spring break, and much quieter midweek and in winter. Free parking and free WiFi are standard. Rosarito's restaurants, lobster stands and the Puerto Nuevo lobster village 20 minutes south are all easily reached, and central Rosarito is walkable from the gate.
