Hotel Coral & Marina stands at Kilometre 103 of the Tijuana-Ensenada highway in the Zona Playitas, on the northern edge of Ensenada Bay in Baja California, Mexico, about ten minutes by car from the malecon and the fish market in the city centre and roughly an hour and a half from the Tijuana border crossings. It is the largest full-service resort on the bay and the only one built around a working marina, with roughly 350 slips accepting vessels of substantial size; the marina is an official port of entry, which makes the hotel a standard first stop for boats arriving from San Diego. The complex is a pair of low salmon-coloured towers set behind the marina basin, more functional than architecturally notable, but every room faces the water and has a private balcony looking across the boats to the bay and the hills behind Ensenada. Accommodation runs from ocean-view rooms through junior suites to two-bedroom suites, the larger units with kitchenettes and separate living areas, which makes the resort a practical choice for families and longer stays. Facilities are unusually complete for the price point: indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa with treatment rooms and a sauna, lit tennis courts, a fitness room and an on-site dive centre that runs trips to Islas de Todos Santos and the surrounding kelp beds. The restaurant serves a breakfast buffet and a menu weighted toward local seafood, and there is a bar overlooking the marina. Because of the marina and the meeting rooms, the guest mix is a blend of boat crews, business travellers, conference groups and Mexican and American families, and service is professional in a mid-scale resort register rather than boutique. Free parking and free WiFi come as standard. The location is a trade-off: the setting on the water is far better than anything in the city centre, but reaching Ensenada's restaurants, cantinas and the Riviera cultural centre requires a car or a taxi.
