Costa del Sol Hostel occupies a converted house on Calle Segunda 279 in the Zona Centro of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, a few blocks inland from the malecon and the harbour front. The position is the main practical argument for staying here: the Mercado Negro fish market, where Ensenada's fish tacos originated, is a walk of a few minutes, Avenida Lopez Mateos with its restaurants, shops and the long-running Hussong's Cantina is a block away, and the cruise terminal and the Riviera del Pacifico cultural centre are both reachable on foot. Very little accommodation in Baja California is genuinely walkable to anything, which makes a central hostel unusually useful in this region. The building is a modest two-storey house rather than a purpose-built hostel, with rooms arranged around a small planted courtyard that functions as the social space. Accommodation is split between mixed dormitories with bunk beds and lockers and a small number of private double rooms with their own beds and shared or private bathrooms depending on the unit. Facilities are the standard hostel set: a fully equipped shared kitchen, a laundry, lockers, common seating in the courtyard and free WiFi throughout. There is no restaurant, bar, pool or air conditioning, and guests self-cater or eat at the taquerias and seafood stands within a few blocks. The clientele is a mix of international backpackers working their way down the Baja peninsula, Mexican domestic travellers, surfers heading south toward San Miguel and Todos Santos, and budget visitors using Ensenada as a base for the Valle de Guadalupe wineries about 40 minutes inland. Staff are informal and can point guests toward valley tours, whale-watching boats and bus connections to Tijuana and points south. Dormitory beds run roughly MXN 450 to 600 and private doubles MXN 900 to 1,200, making this the cheapest reliable bed in Ensenada's walkable core.
