Xcaret Park

Xcaret Park is an expansive eco-archaeological theme park on the Riviera Maya coast near Playa del Carmen in Quintana Roo, built on a former Mayan settlement and integrating natural coastal features — underground rivers, cenotes, natural coves called caletas, and coastal lagoons — with cultural presentations, wildlife areas, and evening entertainment. Visitors can swim and snorkel through 600 meters of natural underground rivers that flow through caverns, lagoons, and out to the sea, a signature experience taking approximately 45 minutes at a moderate pace. Several cenotes and natural pools within the park allow swimming alongside fish, turtles, and rays in protected waters. The butterfly pavilion houses hundreds of native Mexican butterfly species, and an aviary features macaws and tropical birds native to the Yucatan region. Cultural areas present traditional Mayan ball game demonstrations, a coral reef aquarium showcasing Mesoamerican reef species, a turtle breeding and release program, beekeeping exhibitions, and folk art workshops where traditional crafts including hammock weaving are demonstrated. The evening Mexico Espectacular show, lasting approximately 90 minutes, involves over 300 performers presenting the history of Mexico through dance, music, and theatrical stagecraft from pre-Hispanic times through independence. This show is widely regarded as the highlight of a full-day visit and is included in the Xcaret Plus ticket tier, which also provides access to a buffet, snorkel equipment, and lockers. The park requires an entire day — arriving at 8:30 AM opening and remaining for the show through to around 10:30 PM is standard practice.
