Playa del Carmen Fifth Avenue (Quinta Avenida)

Quinta Avenida — Fifth Avenue — is a 40-block pedestrian boulevard running parallel to the Caribbean coast through the heart of Playa del Carmen in Quintana Roo, serving as the social and commercial spine of one of the Riviera Maya's most visited resort towns. The avenue runs north to south from the Cozumel ferry terminal pier at the northern end through the main tourist zone and into the residential neighborhoods to the south. The blocks between Calle 1 and Calle 38 concentrate the highest density of restaurants, cocktail bars, souvenir shops, boutiques selling Talavera ceramics and silver jewelry, and beach club entrances. Street performers, fire jugglers, and musicians populate intersections and open plazas throughout the evening hours. Most commercial activity concentrates between 10 AM and midnight. At the northern end, the ferry terminal provides connections to Cozumel every hour with the Ultramar service throughout the day. The Caribbean beach runs parallel to the avenue one block west, with multiple access points between buildings and beach clubs. Beach clubs lining the seafront charge 500 to 1,500 MXN for a lounge chair and umbrella, often credited against food and drink purchases. The wider blocks of the avenue between Calle 10 and Calle 38 are less tourist-oriented and contain local pharmacies, markets, and restaurants at lower prices. The avenue's position in the Riviera Maya makes it a natural base for day trips to cenotes, eco-parks like Xcaret and Xel-Ha, Tulum ruins, and Cozumel.
