Tottori Nijisseiki Pear Museum

The Tottori Nijisseiki Pear Museum in Kurayoshi Park Square is dedicated to the Nijisseiki (20th Century) pear variety, a crisp, juicy cultivar closely associated with Tottori Prefecture, which is one of Japan's leading pear-producing regions. Exhibits inside cover the history of pear cultivation in Tottori, the botany of the Nijisseiki variety, and its economic significance to the region, presented through models, historical farming tools, and multimedia displays. An indoor greenhouse section allows visitors to see pear trees growing under climate-controlled conditions year-round, while an adjoining orchard area offers seasonal pear picking and tasting, typically in late August through September when the fruit ripens. A standard museum visit takes 1 to 1.5 hours, extending significantly during the autumn pear-picking season when many visitors add an all-you-can-eat tasting session in the orchard.
