Cape Omaezaki Coastal Path

The Cape Omaezaki Coastal Path loops the clifftops around the Omaezaki Lighthouse at the southern tip of the Omaezaki Peninsula in Omaezaki City, Shizuoka. Access is by Shizutetsu Justline bus from JR Kakegawa Station to the Omaezaki Lighthouse stop, a ride of about 45 minutes; limited parking is also available near the lighthouse for drivers. The loop covers about 3km round trip along flat to gently rolling coastal terrain with under 40m of elevation change, taking 1-1.5 hours at an easy pace. The path follows paved and packed-dirt sections along the clifftop, with no shade and constant exposure to Pacific Ocean wind, particularly on the exposed western side of the cape. The white Omaezaki Lighthouse, one of the tallest in Japan open for public climbing, is the trail's central landmark and can be climbed via an internal spiral staircase for coastal views extending toward the Izu Peninsula on clear days. The route also passes small shrines, wave-battered rock formations, and a monument marking the cape as a major surfing and fishing point; the lighthouse has operated continuously since 1874. There is no technical difficulty on the path itself, and the loop can be shortened by cutting back along the access road at any point without missing significant scenery. No mountain hut or water source exists along the cliffs, but cafes, a visitor facility, and restrooms cluster near the lighthouse parking area, making the loop a straightforward short outing rather than a backcountry hike.
